When I visit my family for Thanksgiving instead of hosting dinner myself, I like to bring Thanksgiving appetizers. Facing such a big dinner you don’t usually think about what to eat before, but some guests are always early, the turkey doesn’t always finish on time, and extra cocktails on an empty stomach before sitting down with a table full of family isn’t always a great idea.
Thanksgiving Appetizers for Every Budget
Spiced Nuts

A few handfuls of these are filling, but won’t make you stuffed before dinner. A pretty jar of these also make a great hostess gift or edible Christmas gift.
Gougères

I love food that sounds fancier than it is. Gougeres are an easy to make cheese puff, and they are just the thing to whip up on your way out to a party. You can even freeze the dough and bake a few at a time on a cold afternoon.
Bacon Wrapped Dates

I know a lot of folks are sick of bacon, but this classic recipe holds a special place in my heart (and my mouth – yum!) The bleu cheese in the middle really adds a bite to a sweet and salty snack.
Savory Palmiers

A few years ago I discovered frozen puff pastry and I made these every day because it was so easy. Soon after, my husband proposed. I don’t think it’s coincidence.
Olives, Pickles, and Stuffed Celery

When I was a kid these things were all supposed to be served at the same time as dinner, but my mom would put them on the table early and my father and I would sneak snacks. Stuffed celery is one of my favorite things in the world.
