When I was looking for cheap ways to decorate a nursery online, I kept coming across washi tape ideas. I wondered, “What is washi tape?” So I did a little digging and found that it is the cheapest, easiest way to decorate absolutely anything!
What is Washi Tape?
It’s cheap but stylish. It’s fun but functional. It looks permanent but is actually temporary. It’s always pretty. It’s easy to collect. And it can be used on an incredibly wide range of craft and DIY projects. No wonder so many people online are talking about Washi tape. So what is Washi tape?
Washi tape is a Japanese paper craft tape.
It reminds me a little of masking tape in feel, but it comes in really great colors and patterns.
How can I use Washi Tape?
Remember I said I was looking for cheap ways to decorate a nursery? I used Washi tape to turn some $3 blinds into a really cute window treatment! I just made a couple of stripes along the bottom with tapes in different patterns and colors.
You can also use it to:
- decorate paper placemats for holidays
- mark glasses and plates at a party
- make your own holiday cards
- make napkins more festive
- turn a dry erase board into a calendar
- turn a wine bottle into a cool vase
- embellish envelopes on a wedding invitation
Where can I get Washi tape?
You can buy washi tape online for a few dollars a roll at places like PrettyTape or CuteTape, or you can try making your own washi tape with tissue paper and double sided tape for a truly customized craft.
The next time you’re showing off one of your new projects and someone asks you, “What is Washi tape?” you’ll be a Washi tape expert!
